Established in 1997, Higgins Overhead Door is a family-owned and -operated garage door and overhead door company. We serve residential, commercial, and industrial clients throughout Northwest Indiana, from homeowners and business owners to local EMS, fire stations, police stations, and more. We are the only overhead door company in Northwest Indiana where the family name is the business name, so you know that we take pride in our work and will proudly stand behind our installs and repairs when we place our name on your door.
Our History
Higgins Overhead Door began like most small businesses: humble beginnings. Tim Higgins learned the trade in the late 1980s at a now-defunct company. After garnering acclaim for his skill at his craft and professionalism, he ventured out on his own with a truck, his loving and supportive wife, Cathy, and his small family by his side. Success often follows high-quality work and the decision was made to hire employees and move into our current building. Eventually, Tim and Cathy even purchased the assets of Tim’s former employer!
Higgins Overhead Door has grown over the years and now enjoys several office staff and technicians. In 2011, Tim and Cathy’s son, TJ, joined to learn the family business. TJ quickly learned the industry and had Higgins Overhead Door not only join the International Door Association (IDA) but also become an accredited door dealer with the Institute of Door Dealer Education and Accreditation (IDEA) which requires continuous education to maintain accreditation. Both of which have continued to prove that Higgins Overhead Door is the area leader when it comes to all things garage door.
With the support of Tim and Cathy, TJ has earned recognition in the industry through his extensive relationships, with some manufacturers asking TJ to be a part of their dealer councils due to his industry knowledge and feedback. He is also NWI's IDEA-certified Master Technician and a sanctioned IDEA trainer, meaning that all new employees at Higgins Overhead Door will receive only the best training available. Each and every technician is encouraged to pursue individual certifications and to attend factory training to expand their knowledge and truly embody the title of “Garage Door Experts”. Higgins Overhead Door is proud to have several certified technicians on staff!
